Privacy Policy

ChronicleCast is built to run standalone from your own iPhone or iPad. It resolves your location on your device and calls public weather, space-weather, and news sources directly — there is no backend of ours receiving, relaying, or logging that traffic. This policy explains what that means for your data.

The short version

  • ChronicleCast has no account system and no server of ours in the request path for weather, sky, or news data.
  • Your location is used on-device to request your forecast directly from public sources, and is not sent anywhere else.
  • Saved locations and your news feed list sync only through your own iCloud account, using Apple's infrastructure — not ours.
  • ChronicleCast contains no analytics SDKs, no advertising SDKs, and no third-party trackers of any kind.

Information we collect

None. We do not operate any servers that receive, log, or process your location, your forecasts, or your reading activity. The app does not ask for your name, email address, or any account credentials of ours.

Location access

ChronicleCast requests "when in use" location access (System Settings ▸ Privacy & Security ▸ Location Services) to resolve your city and request local weather, radar, and alerts. Your coordinates are sent directly, from your device, to the public weather and space-weather services listed below — never to a server of ours, because there isn't one. You can add extra locations by city or zip code without granting location access at all.

Third-party data sources

To build your dashboard, ChronicleCast makes direct, on-device requests to these public services, each governed by its own terms and privacy practices: the National Weather Service (forecast, hourly forecast, radar, alerts), the EPA (UV index), Open-Meteo (air quality), NOAA's Space Weather Prediction Center (aurora / Kp index), the USGS (nearby earthquakes), any RSS or Atom feed URLs you choose to add, Reddit (a local subreddit), NASA (Astronomy Picture of the Day), and Wikipedia (On This Day). None of these requests pass through a server of ours first.

News feeds you add

Any RSS or Atom feed URL you add in Settings is treated as untrusted input by the app — only http/https links are accepted, requests to private or local-network addresses are blocked, and response size and parsing are capped — but fetching that feed still means your device talks directly to whatever server hosts it. Only add feeds you trust.

iCloud sync

If you're signed into iCloud, your saved locations and news feed list sync across your devices using Apple's iCloud key-value storage. This data is stored in your own iCloud account, governed by Apple's own privacy policy — ChronicleCast has no separate copy of it and no server-side access to it.

Information stored on your device

App preferences, cached forecast data, your saved locations, and your feed list are stored locally on your device (and, if enabled, synced via your own iCloud account as described above). None of it is transmitted to us, because ChronicleCast has nowhere of ours to send it.

Third parties

ChronicleCast does not integrate with any analytics, advertising, or crash-reporting service of our own. The only outbound network requests it makes are the direct, on-device calls to the public data sources listed above.

Children's privacy

ChronicleCast is a general-purpose utility and is not directed at children. It does not knowingly collect information from anyone, of any age, because it operates no server that collects information at all.

Deleting your data

Removing a saved location or feed in the app deletes it locally and from your iCloud sync immediately. Uninstalling ChronicleCast removes the app and its local data. You can revoke Location Services access at any time in System Settings.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page. Since ChronicleCast doesn't collect contact information, we're not able to notify you directly — check back here if you'd like to stay current.
