What is ChronicleCast?
ChronicleCast is a native iPhone & iPad app that shows your local weather, sky conditions, and news on one dashboard — current conditions, an hourly forecast, a 6-day outlook, radar, UV/air quality/aurora, sunrise & sunset, moon phase, and your own configurable news feeds.
When is it coming out?
ChronicleCast is available now, free, on the App Store.
Does it require an account?
No. There's nothing to sign up for. Open the app, grant location access, and your dashboard is ready.
Where does the data come from?
Directly from the source, from your own device — the National Weather Service (forecast, radar, alerts), the EPA (UV index), Open-Meteo (air quality), NOAA's Space Weather Prediction Center (aurora), and the USGS (earthquakes). There's no server of ours relaying or logging any of it.
Can I add my own news sources?
Yes. Add any RSS or Atom feed URL in Settings, plus a local subreddit, and swipe between them alongside NASA's Astronomy Picture of the Day and Wikipedia's On This Day.
Can I track more than one location?
Yes. Search by city or zip code in Settings to save additional locations, each with its own weather-only view — loaded on demand, separate from your Home dashboard.
Does it work on iPad?
Yes, natively. In landscape or a wide multitasking window, the layout switches to two columns — weather and news side by side — instead of just stretching the iPhone layout.
Is there a Home Screen widget?
Yes, in small, medium, and large sizes, showing today's temperature, condition, hourly strip, and (on the large widget) the full outlook.
Do my saved locations and feeds sync across devices?
Yes, through your own iCloud account — your saved locations and news feed list stay in sync on every device you're signed into. This requires being signed into iCloud; nothing else in the app does.
Is my data private?
Yes. ChronicleCast has no server, no account, and no analytics or advertising SDKs. Your location is used to fetch your forecast directly from public weather services and is never sent anywhere else. See the Privacy Policy for the full details.
